“The Mist Of Capricorn” or ‘Makaramanju‘ is an upcoming Malayalam film based on the life of painter Raja Ravi Varma. Though the film already traveled lot of festival stages, the film is yet to release in theaters. The film by cinematographer turned director Lenin Rajendran looks deep into the life of Raja Ravi Varma. Film concentrates more on beautiful anatomy of female body.
The film tells the story of Raja Ravi Varma at a certain stage in his life. He is in the process of painting a masterpiece. The theme of his painting is Pururavas, the legendary king who fell in love with the heavenly nymph Urvashi, who later agrees to become his wife on certain conditions, but disappears without a trace when she discovers that the conditions were violated.
Pururavas wanders all around to find her and ultimately does get united with his lover. Ravi Varma, during his work, finds himself attracted to his model Anjali Bhai and this relationship begin to acquire certain shades of the legend of Urvashi and Pururavas. Together they are thrown into a torrent of love and passion from which they find it difficult to scape.
Ace cinematographer Santhosh Sivan debuting as an actor in a double role as Raja Ravi Varma and Pururavas. And he is pairing with four actresses.
Karthika B Nair after her bubbly role in her first movie, grabbed her one of the lifetimes best role in Makaramanju. Again a double role as Anjali Bhai and Urvashi. And made one of the most remembering entry to Malayalam film industry. Her performance in the film has been appreciated by each and every one and backed her for taking up this bold role.
The film is considered to be a break in the actor’s career and there have been reports that Academy Award-winning British director Danny Boyle of Slumdog Millionaire was impressed with Karthika’s performance in the film and has signed her in his next project.
Nithya Menon, Lakshmi Sharma, Poorna, Mallika Kapoor, Jagathy Sreekumar, Bala, Chithra Iyer, Saiju Kurup are also there in the film.
Makaramanju is a poetic look of female beauty. And this film will be one of the best.It can be called a masterpiece from director Lenin Rajendran. As the camera lingers around the fine details of anatomy of women, the film oozes explosive amount of sensuality.
Music by Ramesh Naraya is already in the hit chart, the gazal based songs are critically appreciated.
